Falling installation costs and higher electricity prices are already increasing demand. Households can improve the value by using appliances in daylight, matching panels to the roof and considering storage where the numbers support it.
The national opportunity is to combine clear independent advice with low-interest finance, grants for lower-income homes and neighbourhood purchasing schemes. That would spread savings beyond households able to find roughly £7,000 upfront.
The figures assume an unshaded south-facing roof and average consumption; real results vary. Batteries add cost, tenants need landlord cooperation and unsuitable roofs need alternatives. Quotes should show generation assumptions, payback time and maintenance before anyone commits.
